Frequently Asked Questions.
After I book a course, what happens next?
You will be sent an email confirmation of your booking. You will need to ensure that you have studied the RST Workbook thoroughly and attempted the quizzes as you will need to pass the theory assessment on the day to progress. The typical student will need to allow approx. 4 hours of study time at home. On the day you will be given a 40 question, multiple choice test. You will need to gain at least 34 out of 40 to pass. You cannot progress onto the practical assessment until you have passed the theory test. Allow yourself enough study time for this before you choose a test date.
How long does the Theory Assessment take?
It will typically take only around 20 mins. You are allowed up to an hour if needed. To pass the theory you will need to obtain 34 out of 40 correct answers. (85%). They are all multiple choice, and you need to pass this to move onto the Practical Assessment
How long does the Practical Assessment take?
This will take around 45 mins of practical training followed by 5-7 mins of assessment. You won’t move onto the Practical Assessment stage until I know you are ready to pass.
Once I pass, can I operate my own boat straight away?
Yes! You will be issued with an interim certificate so that you can operate your boat straight away. You will be sent details on how to obtain your license which includes a small processing fee. This fee is handled by the Department of Transport. Once the fee is paid, allow 4-6 weeks for your license to arrive in the mail.
Do you do one-on-one training rather than a group?
Yes! Please call to discuss options.
Do you do discounts for group training?
Yes, if you have a group of 5 or more, discounts are offered. Please send an enquiry through the contacts page for more information.
Where does the training take place?
Dolphin Quays Marina in Mandurah. See the contacts page for more information. If you want to use your boat for training, we can operate at your usual boat ramp or jetty.
Can I use my own boat?
Yes, please notify me at the time of booking that you wish to use your own boat.
What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring sufficient ID to your appointment. If you have an Australian Drivers License, this is adequate.
If you dont have a Drivers License, see page 8 of the workbook for sufficient primary and secondary ID. If you don’t have a valid Drivers License or Learners Permit, you will need an Eyesight Declaration form and if you are under 18 years of age, you will need a Letter of Consent. Both forms can be found here on the Downloads Page. They will need to be filled out prior to receiving an RST.
